The Supreme Court slammed producer Ekta Kapoor on Friday for “objectionable content” in her web series ‘XXX,’ saying she was polluting the minds of the country’s youth.
The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by Kapoor challenging the arrest warrants issued against her for allegedly insulting soldiers and hurting the feelings of their families in her web series ALTBalaji.
“Action must be taken. You are polluting the minds of this country’s young people. It is open to everyone. Everyone has access to OTT (Over The Top) content. What kind of options do you give the people? “On the contrary, you are polluting the minds of our children,” said a bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and C T Ravikumar.
The court made the remark after senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who was representing Kapoor, stated that a petition had been filed with the Patna high court, but there was no hope that the matter would be heard soon.
He claimed that the Supreme Court had previously granted Kapoor protection in a similar case.
According to Rohatgi, the content is subscription-based, and there is freedom of choice in this country.
The court, which did not impose costs, then questioned what kind of choice is being given to people.
“Every time you come to this court….we don’t like it.” We will charge you a fee for filing such a petition. Please convey this to your client, Mr. Rohatgi. This court is not for those who have voices simply because they can afford and hire good lawyers.
“This court works for those who do not have a voice…if these people, who have all kinds of facilities, cannot get justice, consider the situation of the common man.” “We saw the order, and we have reservations,” the bench stated.
The Supreme Court adjourned the case and suggested that a local lawyer be assigned to inquire about the status of the hearing in the high court.
The warrant was issued by a trial court in Bihar’s Begusarai after an ex-serviceman, Shambhu Kumar, filed a complaint.
Kumar claimed in his 2020 complaint that the series ‘XXX’ (Season-2) contained several objectionable scenes involving a soldier’s wife.
