India, Australia and Canada have announced a new trilateral technology and innovation partnership called the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership. The three leaders—India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney revealed the initiative during their meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg. The partnership aims to strengthen cooperation in emerging technologies, green energy, critical minerals and secure supply chains.

Strengthening Tech and Clean Energy Collaboration

All three countries agreed that ACITI will draw from their individual strengths and combine them for faster innovation. The joint statement said the initiative will focus on critical and emerging technologies, clean energy solutions and supply-chain resilience. The plan also includes building strong links in areas such as critical minerals and green energy systems, where each country brings unique capabilities. The partnership also supports global efforts toward achieving net-zero goals.

Focus on AI, Critical Minerals and Resilient Supply Chains

The Canadian Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that ACITI will explore responsible development and widespread adoption of AI to improve lives. The three nations will also work together on diversifying supply chains, especially in critical minerals that are essential for advanced manufacturing, electric vehicles and clean-tech systems. This cooperation is expected to reduce dependence on single-country supply sources and build long-term economic security.

Reset in India–Canada Relations and Broader Diplomatic Momentum

The launch of ACITI signals a fresh phase in India–Canada ties after Mark Carney took office. Both sides have shown intent to rebuild trust and move forward with technology and economic collaboration. Modi also held separate meetings with leaders, including Australia’s Anthony Albanese, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and South Korea’s President Lee Jae-myung. These conversations focused on defence, security, trade, energy and major joint projects such as the India–France jet engine development plan with Safran and DRDO.

The ACITI Partnership marks a major step in India’s global technology outreach, linking it with two major partners across three continents. With its focus on emerging tech, clean energy, AI and resilient supply chains, the initiative is expected to drive long-term innovation and strengthen India’s leadership in global tech cooperation.
